Semi-Live Blogging the Symphony Part 2
Alright, so I realize it is now the next morning and this is no longer even semi-live blogging the symphony. However, I thought it best to keep a similar title for fluidity.
The second half of the concert was wonderful. Whereas the first half was new music by American composers which are still alive, the second half was by American composers that have now passed away. The pieces were Copland’s Appalachian Spring and Gershwin’s An American in Paris. I will not go into the intricacies of the pieces or anything. I had heard both these pieces before and the Knoxville Symphony Orchestra did an outstanding job of performing both of them. After the show the KSO was given a standing ovation (everyone seems to get standing ovations nowadays, but this one was well deserved). It was certainly an excellent way to open their 72nd season.
Afterwards there was a reception for the bloggers downstairs in the Tennessee Theatre. There we were greeted by several nice KSO employees, including Communications Director Stephanie Burdette. Everyone was very nice. We also got to meet with Maestro Lucas Richman and also the featured pianist for the evening, Jeffrey Biegel.
In addition I got to meet several of the local bloggers I read on a daily basis and some that I had not heard of. These bloggers included: Rich Hailey, Lissa Kay, Krisha Newport, Byron Chesney, Tish McQueen and Doug McCaughan (unfortunately I did not get to speak to a couple of these before I had to sneak out). It was certainly good to meet some of the people I read daily.
Thanks again to Frank Murphy for pointing out this opportunity and the Knoxville Symphony Orchestra for offering us these tickets.

I’m sorry we did not get to meet. I find me feet get glued to floor sometimes.
I’m a regular reader and hope to meet soon.

It was nice meeting you, Craig! Thanks for the link. I’ve linked both of your posts in my review. :) We have monthly blogfests - usually at Barley’s or Bailey’s or someplace similar. Rich is planning one now actually. I hope you’ll join us!
