CNN/YouTube GOP Debate
Some quick comments on last night’s CNN/YouTube Debate. I once again thought Mike Huckabee did very well and probably won the debate. A survey of Florida voters and Iowa voters echoed this. You can find that poll HERE. I also thought Mitt Romney did pretty well, except for his stumble over the question of whether he believed every word of the Bible. Fred Thompson was the only one that had an attack ad against any of the other GOP candidates, and I think this probably hurt him. He was certainly at a loss for words when confronted about it. McCain looked bored (Did you know he served in Vietnam?? He made sure to remind us several times again!). Ron Paul makes a few good points, but then looks to me looks extreme (almost crazy; I hate to use that word, but that is what I think of at points). Also, Giuliani looked okay, but I thought he looked week on immigration right at the beginning of the debate.
I was very upset with McCain for taking a question about the FairTax and turning it into an attack on Ron Paul. I was very disappointed Anderson Cooper did not step in at this point and stop it. It completely killed any debate about the FairTax.
I thought the questions were all pretty good; much better than the last YouTube debate with talking snowmen, etc. However, letting the gay retired army man stand up and talk was a mistake. He simply wanted to attack the clients, not ask any follow-up questions.
