Newt Gingrich Would Consider VP
According to an interview on “This Week” with George Stephanopoulos yesterday (12/9/2007), Newt Gingrich did not rule out a run for Vice President if asked.
So I decided I’ll follow Reagan and say — the opposite — since I’m from Georgia, I’ll say the opposite of Sherman. You know, if drafted, I would run, and if nominated, I would serve.”
However, Gingrich went on to say it was an improbable scenario. “I think it is sufficiently unlikely. We’re not making any plans to be writing an acceptance speech.”
Just to make sure Stephanopoulos asked “but you won’t hang up the phone if called?” Gingrich simply laughed and responded, “that’s right.”
As reported HERE, Gingrich decided not to run for President as least partly because it would jeopardize the 527 status of American Solutions. I do not know much about campaign finance, but would the restrictions be different if he was running as a Vice-Presidential candiate as opposed to a Presidential candidate? Or would American Solutions still be in jeopardy of losing its 527 status?
