Homeschooling Outlawed in California

According to an LA Times article, homeschooling has been ruled illegal in California.

“Parents do not have a constitutional right to home school their children,” wrote Justice H. Walter Croskey in a Feb. 28 opinion signed by the two other members of the district court. “Parents who fail to [comply with school enrollment laws] may be subject to a criminal complaint against them, found guilty of an infraction, and subject to imposition of fines or an order to complete a parent education and counseling program.”

The article goes on to say:

Meanwhile, state Department of Education’s attorneys are reviewing the ruling.

Teachers union officials will also be closely monitoring the appeal. A.J. Duffy, president of United Teachers Los Angeles, said he agrees with the ruling.

“What’s best for a child is to be taught by a credentialed teacher,” he said.

Imagine that.  The teachers union thinks a child should only be taught by a “credentialed teacher.”

Home schooling is illegal in California. Most home schoolers are Christians and all they know to do is fearmonger. Just look at this as an example!

I am a god fearin woman, but I don’t go to church. This is because of so many Christians that decide they have the right to judge. But this isn’t the reason why I’m typing this.
I homeschool my daughter. The reason isn’t for Religion. Its because my daughter has Epilepsy. She has up to 100 absent seizures a day. She’s on medication, but the absent seizures we are unable to control. This makes her look like she is staring out into space. With this happening up to 100 times a day. Her teachers thought that seizures were her falling out of her chair and shaking uncontrolably. They have no clue. I have time and time again gone round with them. They just push it off as she doesn’t care to pay attention and they believe she just doesn’t want to do her work. My daughter is almost 16 this coming april. My daughter is only in the 7th grade because of her seizures and the school not wanting to accomodate and learn to understand. They repeatedly kept calling her a liar because she would have literally no clue where her work went after it was done. They say, she doesn’t care. This is why I pulled my child from the public school system. Its not that I am her teacher, I am her supervisor. I make sure she understands what she is doing. I don’t give her answers. Yet, my child is able to have the one on one attention she without a doubt needs. She is able to work at her own pace since she has the seizures. She is able to work year round on her schooling so she can get caught up so she can graduate at 18. We are doing this so she doesn’t have to be put on ADD and ADHD and antidepresents because of the school. By the way the school also says they believe she is ADD and ADHD. My daughter started getting depressed because she would actually try. When she was able to understand what they were saying in class, she did fine. Her hardest thing to understand is Math. She had and I repeat, HAD a math teacher that refused to help my daughter during the week with her math at 7:00p.m. at her home because the teacher said and I quote “this is my time, Not Anna’s time”. You shouldn’t outlaw homeschooling, because there are kids out there that desperately need this. And without a doubt there are too many teachers out there that DON’T CARE enough about our kids. What ever happen to having the wonderful teachers we had growing up that would never turn a child away. My daughters math teacher also told my daughter that she should have listened in school. So, If the school system can’t help my child to succeed, then I WILL.

I was home schooled and graduated with a 3.5 grade average back in 1990 and went on to college. I am, needless to say, appalled that they have outlawed home schooling in California. So much for Land of the Free! I also have a niece that is in a home school program. She was failing in public school because she has trouble focusing in a large group. She is now an A+ student. Some children need this type of setting to learn. The state we live in now you either send your children to private school or you teach them at home b/c the school system is awful here. So God forbid they ban it in my state!
I for one will be watching this closely now, and all of you who believe in freedom should as well! Anyone should have the right to teach their children at home.

Say goodbye to your families, your rights, your freedom. H. Walter Croockey should go live in communist Russia if he doesn’t believe in freedom. What a JA.
