Conventions

Does anyone else find it extremely strange how the delegates vote at the conventions?  All the primaries and caucuses are strictly for show.  The delegates you select via your vote in your state primary is thrown out the window.  They get to the convention and vote for whoever they choose.  I realize this is their right (although strange), but it just doesn’t seem right to me.

If someone has won via getting enough delegates, why don’t the elected delegates vote the way they were committed to?  I realize both parties want “unity,” but can we not have this unity by still representing the votes of the people?

I am certainly not bashing just the Democrats on this.  The Republicans will do the same thing next week.  Does this seem strange to anyone else??
