National Anthem at the Olympics

I was watching the Olympics this evening, and I watched Michael Phelps set another World Record in the 400 IM this evening.  What an impressive swimmer!

However, when they played the American National Anthem, it was completely screwed up.  Mrs. Thomas and I were trying to figure out what part they were at, and right when we thought we had it, it would change again.  Finally, it seemed to be on track, and they cut it short.  It will be interesting to see what happens throughout the rest of the Olympics.  Hopefully this was just a technical difficulty and a fluke.  It was interesting that President Bush was there as well.  I will take it as a fluke and not an intentional slap in the United States’ face, but maybe I am giving them the benefit of the doubt.

I doubt that it was a technical error. They left out “o’er the land of the free and the home of the brave.” Leaving that out would be a typical Commmunist mind-game way of insulting the United States.

It sounded like the soundtrack was repeating – - I’ve been googling various phrases all night looking to see if it’s a certain version (which, if it is, I HATE) I like when our athletes can stand with gold and sing the anthem—not keep getting lost!

I couldn’t agree more regarding the national anthem blunder. Part of the honor of the olympics is the representation of one’s country! Only to have its national anthem blundered. Unfortunately, in response to the irony you pointed out regarding President Bush being at the race … unfortunately, I’m not sure he’d catch the error.

Is Obama any better? He doesn’t even put his hand over his heart at times when it is being played!

Let them mess it up all they want, we can still have it played more than any other country. Additionally, their citizens can dream about the freedoms that are suppressed while they watch and listen. I don’t know why people think the President wouldn’t catch the error, he makes mistakes but isn’t as stupid as people would like to think.

Hey! Has anyone else noticed our Olympic athletes and spectators, when shown, NOT singing our National Anthem? Is it a weird communist regulation, or (please tell me it’s not so!!)is it just that teens through 30-somethings DONT KNOW THE WORDS!!! What’s happened to our nation’s pride, our patriotism? Hell! just having the balls to actually show patriotism for the greatest country on the planet?!

I love your description of the experience of listening to that. Just when I thought I had it….. First I thought I was crazy, then I thought I was having a stroke, but for me when it just caught off I was quite relieved to know that neither of the first two was the case.
