Jimmy V

Jim Valvano gave this speech on March 3, 1993 after being diagnosed with brain cancer.  I heard the speech (again) on my way into work this morning.  I want to hear this speech at least once a year.  It is emotional but powerful.  As he is giving the speech remember that he is so weak he had to be helped up the stairs (at the beginning of the video); yet, he was very enthusiastic and poignant in the delivery.  One of my favorite parts:

To me, there are three things we all should do every day. We should do this every day of our lives. Number one is laugh. You should laugh every day. Number two is think. You should spend some time in thought. And number three is, you should have your emotions moved to tears, could be happiness or joy. But think about it. If you laugh, you think, and you cry, that’s a full day. That’s a heck of a day. You do that seven days a week, you’re going to have something special.

Do yourself a favor and take the 10 minutes or so to watch/listen to this speech (text of the speech can be found HERE). If you are moved by the speech or want to find out more, go to www.jimmyv.org.
