You Can Carry…Sometimes
Well, Tennessee recently passed a law to allow you to carry guns in parks if you have the proper carry permit. However, they left it up to the individual municipalities if they want to opt out. Many did, but Blount County actually did not, even though at leasat the two major cities in the county did.
This week, however, the Blount County Attorney General issued and opinion that you could not carry in parks if there was a school activity going on. I understand what he is trying to prevent; I just don’t see that this is truly the case. Of course, as soon as you mention “the children” people suddenly lose all semblance of common sense and go crazy. How can you properly notify people? You would have to post signs at all the entrances to the park and notify all the individuals already in the park. I would like to see how this would stand up in court.
I would also like to see what Uncle has to say about this, as he is much more of an expert than myself.
UPDATE (10/19/2009) Uncle previously commented here on the same opinion issued by the Tennessee AG.
