Good News For Tennessee Residents

The state legislature has filed fewer bills this year.  According to the WBIR story:
By this time in most years, there are typically as many as 2,500 bills filed. But as of Wednesday, there were only about 377on file with the House clerk, about 291 with the Senate clerk, and about 80 resolutions.
In general, when government [...]

Kent Williams Commitment to Jason Mumpower

Bryan Haynes of the East Tennessee Conservative appears to have broken the story about a Kent Williams radio interview.  In it, Mr. Williams says he planned to support Mumpower for Speaker of the TN House.  Of course, in a power-hungry grab, he aligned with the Democrats and voted for himself instead.
Mick Wright made a YouTube [...]

Election Day

Today is Election Day in Tennessee (and maybe other states).  This is a Primary for some contests and a General Election for others.  And it is on a Thursday.  The randomness of election days in Tennessee never ceases to amaze me.
Now, GO VOTE!

Eminent Domain Abuse In Nashville

Blue Collar Muse has written a couple excellent posts on Eminent Domain abuse in Nashville.  The Supreme Court’s ruling that the government may atke an individual’s property for other another private citizen in Kelo v. City of New London is just over three years old.  The travesty is starting to hit pretty close to home [...]

( ) Regardless of the relationship between a child’s parents, [...]

Property Tax Freeze Fleece

Recently the State of Tennessee voted to allow a Property Tax Freeze Program.  This permits individual governments to enact a property tax freeze for their constituents.  Blount County has voted to enact this for its residents.  I disagreed with the program from the start, but after finding out the details in a letter I received today, I am even [...]

Tennessee Lottery Scholarships

Over at Volunteer Voters, there is a post about the Tennessee Lottery Scholarships. Apparently 75% of lottery scholarship recipients lose their scholarship before they graduate. Now Governor Bredesen wants to offer 2nd chances. The recipients of these scholarships EARNED them based on their high school grades/test scores. Once they receive them, they must be responsible [...]

Snow in East Tennessee

Once again, East Tennessee (where I live) proves its complete insanity when any bit of winter weather is predicted. Yesterday the salted all the roads (a saltwater solution on the interstates and some regular salt on other roads). They did that a couple weeks ago and nothing happened at all. Taxpayer money put to good [...]
